Cinderella Comes Home

Wow, where to begin? This is going to be a very long, very detailed entry. I think, anyway. So if you don't care about my senior prom, well *laughs* come back later. Much later.

First, though, thank you to everyone who wished me a good time or asked how it went. I appreciate it, you guys, for recognizing how special it was to me. Thank you also to some new linkers that I have: angelgirl76, just-m, and yuta-shohei. You'll probably remember yuta from a while ago, so she's a returning linker. Welcome, you guys, I'm flattered that you'd want to spend some of your time with me!

Ok, deep breath.. go slow.

I get to Heather's house and she and Nicole are getting ready. This is how it worked out: Heather and Matthew, Nicole and her boyfriend Zack, Traci Ard a junior, and Guy and myself. I was already ready and there was the oos and the aahhs... which made me blush. I had my hair done at a hair dresser in this french twist bun sort of thing that had my tiara resting on it. I liked it. Also red lipstick, normally a mistake for me, but with the red dress it worked.

So I was nervous, wating for Guy to get there. He had to call at one point and I had him call my uncle for directions. Aye yi yi I was worried my uncle was going to say something like, "keep your hands off my niece!" or something *laughs* But he didn't. He teases about that kind of thing a lot but when it comes to it he refrains so, yay him.

So Guy got there and I was waiting on him. I wanted to be the first thing he saw. *laughs* I couldn't really interpret the look on his face when he saw me so I volunteered the "you look nice" "yes so do you." *laughs* and "the corsage is in the car." So... he brought me one *giggles* It was about 4 medium sized white roses, and it had little sprigs of diamond rhinestones in it... aww it was so pretty. So I put it on over my glove.

We took a lot of pictures at Heather's house.. then we left for the restaurant. Guy and I went by ourselves in his car, before Heather and Matt and Traci left, and Nicole in her truck.

The conversation was pretty steady, which I was pleased about. He's not always easy to carry a conversation with because he can be very quiet and shy and get lost in his own thoughts. But it was good..

We were driving and had to take a detour through the Charleston ghetto *laughs* so that was great.. but he's a great driver, he got us there on time and we saw some of the familiar sights from Governor's School *lesigh*. We parked in the parking garage and I was nervous going down the steps in my dress shoes, and I nearly fell *laughs* HOLY JESUS! But fortunately I grabbed the railing and didn't really "fall" I just started forward a little. But it was OK because then he gave me his hand to get down the steps and from then on whenever we were stepping up on a curb or something *laughs*

As we were walking down the sidewalk to get to the restaurant, we saw a carriage tour. Downtown Charleston is famous for their historical carriage rides, with a tour guide and a big group of riders, as a way of sightseeing the things in the city. The lady driving it stopped the carriage and said, "Oh look what we have here!" *laughs* and all the people looked at us and she was like, "I don't mean to put you guys on the spot or anything but you look really good together!" *Laughs* Wow I blushed about that one...

So we got into Bocci's and the other group was there.. we took longer because of the detour.. so we sat down and ordered pretty quickly.. There was this weird guy in the corner oggling me.. that was creepy. But, here's the website of the place, and the menu.. I had the Chicken Francesca. It came with the chicken dish and green beans and pasta with tomatoe sauce all over it.. which I didn't want to eat because tomatoe sauce has garlic in it and *laughs* makes your breath bad, and I specifically picked out that meal because I didn't think it would have any garlic in it...so I didn't eat it but to make up for it I ate everything else on my plate.

And then I noticed that Guy's came with pasta too and he didn't touch his either...*giggles*

The dinner conversation was lovely. We all talked amongst ourselves but I did my best to involve Guy in it and explain our school inside jokes to him (but I didn't really explain our inside jokes to the others..hehe) and sometimes we would talk about something only he and I knew about and do a little flirting in front of the rest of them. *muwahaha evil laughter*

He held my chair out for me and opened the car doors and everything. *sigh* I knew he was a gentleman.

After that we went to the actual place where the prom was.. it was BEAUTIFULLY decorated. There was this big staircase and they had paper bags sitting on each of the steps, thin transparent colored ones, that had candles down in them.. and when you got up on the top step there was a gauzy thing over the hallway/walkway with rose petals sprinkled all over it... it was dimly lighted and so many candles and roses, it was just gorgeous. They had all our baby and formal and casual pictures up at the bar with rose petals sprinkled around them, oh it was pretty.

The first thing we did, after Heather and I had a makeup bathroom run, was take pictures. There was that guy/girl pose where he put his hands on my hips *sigh* and I took one with just Heather and myself. He paid for the $4 pose fee too.. sheesh.

We sat down at the tables a few minutes and then we took our shoes off and got on the dance floor. Well the girls did. High heels were not made for dancing in! It was lovely. His hands were warm and I could feel them on my bare skin because the back of my dress was out. I had my arms around his neck and every now and then I would glance up into his eyes but quickly away again before I started blushing and ruined it all. He can't fast dance (neither can I) but he can slow dance just fine.

They played a TON of slow songs. Too many I thought. Last year at prom I danced every dance just about, and sweated and had fun. This year almost all the music was slow so even though I had a date I couldn't very well dance every dance with him because there were just SO many and it would make the slow dances that we DID dance less special... but we danced about 5 times.. most of the time I had my arms around his neck and he had his on my hips.. and once we danced with one arm around his neck and holding his hand, and his other arm around my hip. *sigh*

Then came the climax:

We had just finished dancing one and yet another slow dance came up, and I asked if he wanted to do two in a row because the night was almost over and I did want to dance every one that I could.. and then I recognized the music. It was "Have You Ever" by Brandy.

*laughs* OH boy. Oh boy.

If you haven't heard that song in a while or have never heard it, here are the lyrics:

Have you ever loved somebody so much
It makes you cry
Have you ever needed something so bad
You can't sleep at night
Have you ever tried to find the words
But they don't come out right
Have you ever, have you ever

Have you ever been in love
Been in love so bad
You'd do anything to make them understand
Have you ever had someone steal your heart away
You'd give anything to make them feel the same
Have you ever searched for the words to get you in their heart
But you don't know what to say
And you don't know where to start

Have you ever found the one
You've dreamed of all of your life
You'd do anything to look into their eyes
Have you finally found the one you've given your heart to
Only to find that one won't give their heart to you
Have you ever closed your eyes and
Dreamed that they were there
And all you can do is wait for the day when they will care

What do I gotta do to get you in my arms baby
What do I gotta say to get to your heart
To make you understand how I need you next to me
Gotta get you in my world
'Cuz baby I can't sleep

Now I don't know if he was lonely about his newly reformed unrequited crush on Bethany or maybe if he sensed my.. quasi crush, also unrequited, on him or what but.. we started out as usual, with my forearms around his neck and his hands loosely on my hips, then went to my upper arms around his neck and his hands a little tighter at my mid back, and ended up with my head on his shoulder, arms tight around his neck and his arms embracing me, at my upper back. And I didn't do any of the pulling. It was all him.. but I certainly didn't resist *Laughs*

Then when the song ended we just stood on the floor, motionless for a minute, his arms holding me tight to him, embracing.

Wow. *laughs* Probably not what I needed... but. It was magical.

He escorted me for my senior walk. Oh that was lovely. We walked through the archway, arm in arm, "Michelle Hooper is being escorted by Guy Bardot (*laughs* even though his name is NOT Bardot... it's Boudreaux and I told them 5 times what it was... *groans*). Michelle's friends describe her as, "Shy, outspoken, quiet (how do those go together??) funny, smart, sarcastic, a dictionary, and skinny (!). Michelle plans to attend Furman University and major in psychology." and everyone took pictures like we were part of a Hollywood movie or something. *sigh...again*

The last dance of the night it took us a lot less time to get that head on the shoulder, arms tight to me position.. and there was the long hug, an even longer hug, afterward. And I'm not sure what it was I felt when brushing up against him... *laughs* maybe it was his camera.

He told me he had more fun at this prom than either of the two other ones he had been to. *sighs*

After the prom we went to the beach and took some more pictures on the water in our clothes. He let me borrow his film since my camera had run out and we agreed to swap pictures. Then he changed but the rest of us stayed in our dress clothes. We put a blanket down and had a picnic on the beach at midnight, under the stars... eating strawberries and lemon squares that Matt's mum had made. We had sparkling white grapejuice and I made a toast. "To a good future, to wise decisions, to an arduous and rewarding study, to making new friends, and keeping in touch with the old ones."

I know Heather was really jealous *laughs* because Matthew is just... really dimwitted and makes these retarted comments, and he can't dance.. and he sure to HELL isn't as cute as Guy is, not in a gazillion years. And I think she kind of likes him - Guy - because they're both big math buffs. But for the most part she stayed clear of flirting with him and didn't ask him to dance so... Da ha!

Oh it was beautiful. On the way back he was playing CD's in his car and he was singing a long with them.. OH and one of the CDs was of the USC marching band (he's a huge fan of USC, he's going there in fact) and they were doing a musical rendition of Hey Baby (I Wanna Know, Will You Be My Girl) and they had vocals on the chorus... and he was singing a long to that...*sigh*

Heather and I stayed up until 5 AM talking after he left.. I got a hug goodnight but I didn't kiss him, even though I had permission *laughs* sheesh.

The dances were really the best part of the whole shebang. Wow I can still feel my heart quivering.

So that was my prom. Could have been more longwinded but *laughs* I'll save you the boredom.

Yeah, it was romantic and all that but, it was just one night. Today when I see Brian again I'll jump up in his arms and kiss him all over.. and go very happily back to my life. Sometimes it's nice to step outside of things and remember what it's like to be young and feel free - and he let me do that, and now it's finished. The memories are more than enough.
