Poem

Expunged

i did not believe you had soaked in,
i'd absorbed too much self; no room for love.
but your last words taught me how heavy
air can be, water can be,
a formless and tasteless weight
like dreams cooling to stone.

now
you bloom beneath me, a sponge expanding
the limits of my lips, the slick deception
of thighs. no amount of pressure
now
could make you bleed for me again.
